Payments and fintech veteran will lead the bank’s sponsor banking initiative

Sonata Bank welcomes Glenn Murray as Director of Sponsor Banking. Murray will lead the bank’s sponsor banking initiative, which will work with financial technology (fintech) companies to bring banking products and services to market. He brings more than 20 years of experience in sponsor banking, payments and fintech, with a track record in partnerships, go-to-market strategy and revenue growth.

Sponsor banking is a strategic growing strategy for Sonata Bank, and Murray’s background in building lasting partner relationships on both the bank and fintech side positions him to guide that work. In his new role, he will focus on identifying the right fintech partners and building a program that is scalable and supported by strong risk management.

Murray joins Sonata from DreamFi, where he served as Chief Strategy Officer and helped take the fintech from stealth to market launch. He set the company’s strategy and operating model, built its early product, marketing, operations and business development teams, and secured the vendor and financial services partnerships needed to launch.

His banking experience comes from Sutton Payments, where he served as Vice President, Strategic Growth. There he led business development, partner management and commercial strategy for the bank’s fastest growing division and created its Preferred Partner Program to make onboarding easier for partners and increase engagement and volume.

Murray’s earlier career spans some of the best-known names in payments. He managed large enterprise merchant relationships at PayPal, led go-to-market strategy at Merchant e-Solutions, and held relationship management roles at Capital One and Mastercard. At Discover Financial Services, where he spent eight years, he owned the profit and loss for a portfolio of card programs, generated more than $20 million in cumulative sales, and launched the Discover Campus Card Program, growing it from a regional pilot into a national program.

Murray holds a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communications from DePaul University in Chicago and a Six Sigma Green Belt certification in process optimization.
